The J. V. R. Government College is situated in Sathupally at Khammam district in Telangana. The college volunteered to be assessed by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and submitted its Self Study Report to NAAC in Dec. 2005. The NAAC constituted the Peer Team consisting of Dr. K.C. Mathur, former Vice Chancellor of M.N.R. & ASRK University (Chathisgargh), as Chairman, Dr. Rajan Varughese, Principal, Marthoma College of Management and Technology, Asramam Campus, Perumbavoor (Kerala), as Member Co-ordinator and Dr. P. A. Bhat, former Principal, Dr. A. V. Baliga College, Kumta, (Karnataka) as Member of the team to visit the college and validate the Self-study Report. The Peer Team visited the college on Feb 14 and 15, 2006.

Jalagam Vengal Rao Government College came into existence in the year 1976. Sri Jalagam Vengal Rao, the then Chief Minister of Telangana was pioneer in establishing this institution and the college was named after him.
